Along the Amerini Mountains, in the heart of Umbria’s most authentic and hidden side.

The Cammino dei Borghi Silenti crosses the slopes of the Amerini Mountains, a limestone massif in southern Umbria that preserves remote landscapes and suspended atmospheres. It is an itinerary that invites you to slow down, to let silence guide your steps, and to discover a little-known territory rich in nature, history, and ancient presences.

The Amerini Mountains reveal a mosaic of ecosystems: chestnut, Turkey oak, and hornbeam woods; vast holm oak forests among the most intact in central Italy; and stretches of Mediterranean scrub that change colours and scents throughout the day. This is an area of great environmental value, home to rare species such as the wolf and the wildcat. The route then climbs towards Monte Croce di Serra, almost 1,000 metres above sea level, from where the view stretches across Tuscia, the Sibillini Mountains, southern Tuscany, and the small hilltop villages scattered across the landscape.

Along the way you will encounter medieval villages, fortresses, and castles, as well as places where Umbrian and Etruscan history suddenly resurfaces, such as the evocative necropolis of the Vallone San Lorenzo, immersed in an ancient silence.

It is a path that speaks softly and asks only to be listened to. You can experience this journey at your own pace, with the reassurance of a complete organisation: accommodation booked at the end of each stage, an initial briefing, dedicated assistance, and luggage transport. You simply need to focus on walking, on the landscape, and on the deep stillness of the Borghi Silenti.
